Problem Flooring
Stripped It Back
Now Good As New
This job was one of the most technical contracts we have undertaken as a company but one of the most rewarding when completeD. It was a large commercial kitchen that needed a new running cove safety floor installed.
Now, to the trades reading this at this precise moment, you may well be laughing and thinking “what are you talking about… this is a standard, straight forward job” …which it is. However, when you look at the pictures, you quickly realise that it is far from straight forward.
This is where Top Mark Carpets come into their own and exceed a lot of other companies… not only in dedication to see a difficult job through to the end, but in having the necessary skill set and knowledge too!
We could bore you with a huge essay on this particular job but feel that the pictures will suffice in telling the story better. For those interested, we have included the initial report below. There are far too many photos of this job for supporting evidence so we have narrowed them down a little… please enjoy.
Job Report – Holly Blue Pub
- To remove old flooring including old, rotten marine ply, all coving, old door bars, sit-on skirting and centre appliance unit to access further rotten flooring and joists. Once into the floor, it became apparent that the vast majority of the floor (joists supporting brickwork etc) was rotten and collapsing due to poorly fitted top floor and under floor work (i.e., not repairing holes punched through supporting brickwork allowing excessive movement of the subfloor).
- This in turn, over time, has created a dangerous, unstable rotten floor. There were no existing noggins that also added to the problem. To rectify these problems, we have put over 300lm of supporting joists, noggins and supports to unstable walls. Support slabs cemented to the floor have been installed to create less distance between unsupported joists.
- Holes in walls have been closed to create stable supports. 25ml marine ply have been used to create a heavy duty base for new flooring coving. The marine ply has been primed ready to receive a flexible latex Fball superflex 700. New Alrto Walkway colour dolphin has been fitted and coved to all walls, welded and sealed to create a watertight seal.
- Flooring to fridge areas on uplifting the old flooring was found to be placed on a pre-painted floor, which has caused the latex to blow. It was found to be very wet and mouldy under the floor due to fridges leaking. All old latex was removed and Ardex NA was laid to repair and receive new floor coving. Altro Walkway colour dolphin was laid, welded and sealed.
